CRANDALL PEAK OUTING REPORT: by Chas Moser
It's probably a good thing that only three TBSA rigs showed up, as by the time Chas got there on Thursday the campsite was almost totally full with 12 or 13 rigs and about the same number of tents with many adults, about three times as many kids, all of whom had bikes or quads and dogs. Robin & Glenda managed to squeeze their large toy hauler into a narrow space about five feet from Chas' trailer and Paul was able to squeeze his trailer into another tight spot close by. We were serenaded day and night almost constantly by several loud BOOM boxes, each playing different music, of course. Fortunately all the folks were very friendly. Remember last year during the same July 4th weekend, TBSA had the whole campsite to itself. Apparently some of the other nearby camping areas were inaccessible, although it's hard to figure out why Deer Creek was totally devoid of campers and bike riders!! At least in 136 miles of superb riding over four days, we ran across only two other trail riders. Tad & Paricia showed up on Sunday for a day ride. The Cornwells are working their way over to the orange side. Paricia was very proud of her new ride, a KTM 250 XCF-W.
Despite having only four people, the Saturday potluck turned out surprisingly well, thanks to the culinary expertise of Glenda and Paul. Chas' solar box-cooked Lasagna, although a little overcooked, was nevertheless still edible. Chas is indebted to Robin for his barbecued hamburgers and Glenda's potluck leftovers for the Sunday dinner.
Oh, and by the way, be wary of and don't believe any rumors or tales you might hear at the next TBSA meeting regarding a probable Harley Half-Miler nomination for a certain rider who may or may not have forgotten to include tire repair plugs for his/her Tubliss tires in their trail-side tire repair kit.
