This outing was memorable for several reasons which will soon become apparent. There was a good turnout with eight rigs including Tad and Paricia from the Diablo TBSA chapter and Andrew 'Ducky Boy' Whitehead sleeping in the back of his pickup, plus several day riders. There were several rides going out each day. One of the Friday rides included a 30 mile quest for new single track trails and lunch at Lover's Leap. A 53 mile ride on Saturday included the Strawberry Creek four-wheel drive trail, single track up to the Pacific Crest Trail and Buck Pasture single track. Sunday's 66 mile ride was a 'doozy' (is that a word?). This ride included the 4 wheel drive trail just east of Strawberry Creek, the 4 wheel drive road to the Caples Creek Maintenance Station, 10 miles of Hwy 88 to Plasse's Resort trailhead for a counterclockwise loop around Silver Lake on around to Horse Canyon and Hwy 88. On the way back to camp, some of the riders took about 1/2 of the single track Buck Pasture trail then the Strawberry Creek single track down to the pavement on the west side of Strawberry Creek. Chas put on 177 miles in four days of trailriding.

Chas checked his past records of the Strawberry outings and rediscovered some interesting info. Last year we made an attempt at the Silver Lake loop but were thwarted by the snow above Silver Lake. The last previous attempt was in August 1989 which was aborted due to an ankle injury and problems with an XR200. Our last successful ride around Silver Lake was in July 1988!!!

On Saturday, Bob and Linda Hampton drove up for the day to visit and share in the evening potluck. Chas even saved room for one of Tad's belated (due to a faulty propane barbeque) barbequed steaks.  Last but not least, Chas is indebted to Le for lodging on Friday and Saturday (not to mention the loan of his truck), and to the Heplers for lodging Sunday night. Special thanks to Le for obtaining a permit for TBSA to camp at our beautiful campsite.
