Elevation: Approximately 4600 feet.
Facilities: None.
Smith Valley is on the West Walker River on Highway 208 in Nevada, between Smith and Yerington. Proceed as if going to Sweetwater Summit --
Directions via Interstate 80: Take I-80 east into Reno, then Exit 15 onto 395 southbound. Proceed south through Carson City and Gardnerville to Holbrook Junction and turn left onto Highway 208 eastbound. (Continue instructions as below at @.)
Directions via Highway 50: Take Hwy 50 to South Lake Tahoe; when in South Lake Tahoe, take the Pioneer Trail shortcut back to Hwy 50 near the casinos (Pioneer Trail is faster than Hwy 50); from Hwy 50 east about 1/2 mile after the casinos, turn right on Kingsbury Grade/Hwy 207; once you have reached the 4-way stop sign at the valley floor, turn right on Foothill Rd/Hwy 206; proceed south on 206 for one mile, then turn left on Centerville Lane which is the first left turn after leaving 207; continue on Centerville Lane crossing Hwy 88; once across Hwy 88, make the first left and follow this road all the way to Hwy 395. You will go around a few corners and through a few more stop signs (it changes its name to Dresslerville Road, then to Riverview Drive). Hwy 395 will come up right after the golf course (at the corner with the 7-11 store). Turn right on Hwy 395 and follow it about 15.5 miles south to Holbrook Junction. Turn left at Holbrook Junction on Hwy 208 eastbound. @Continue on Hwy 208 to Wellington, NV. Proceed into the western outskirts of Wellington. Before crossing the river, turn left on Lower Colony Road (which is just a few yards past Upper Colony Road). Proceed 7 miles to the stop and turn right on Jessen Road. The campsite is 3-1/2 miles east on Jessen Road. The first mile is paved and the last 2-1/2 miles are fairly smooth dirt. At 3 miles, Jessen splits into 3 roads; take the middle road basically straight ahead going east. At 3-1/2 miles, look for a green TBSA sign; turn left onto a short access road to the dry lake campsite.
