Chalk Bluff  (Burlington Ridge)

Facilities:  Dry-camping.

Directions:  This area is located on Hwy. 20 and is accessible either via Grass Valley/Nevada City or Interstate 80.

From Nevada City, proceed east on Hwy. 20, past the observation area for the Diggings. After the entrance for the rest stop, go another 1.7 miles and turn left onto a dirt road. The campsite is 0.2 miles in a gravel clearing on the right. If this area is not available, there is more camping about 0.1 miles further up the road on the left. Watch for the green TBSA signs.

-OR-

Take I-80 past Emigrant Gap; take the Hwy. 20 exit going back towards Nevada City/Marysville. As soon as you take the exit, check your odometer and proceed 8.8 miles and take a fairly sharp right turn onto gravel Road 20/16 through an unlocked green gate. This is "Last Chance Mine Road" but it is unmarked. One campsite is 0.2 miles in a gravel clearing on the right, which could hold 8 rigs or so. However, the last several years we've been using the other camping area about 0.1 miles further up the road on the left. Watch for the TBSA signs.

The primary day-use OHV staging area is located 2.4 miles further up Hwy. 20 on the left. The main staging area does not allow overnight camping, but does have maps and restroom facilities. This area offers miles and miles of nice, tight single-track and logging/mining-type roads. Note that all the trails and roads may be accessed with non-street legal bikes. Quads will have good riding on the dirt roads.
